The Factory of Terror- a real old brick factory with maze-like network of about
30 rooms- is an inherently scarier place than the stadium back lots of
Foxboro. Even I remember winding my way along dark corridors that wound
around and around inside the building, and holding onto Joe's and his mother's
hands for mutual comfort as monsters and ghouls leered out at us from the
darkness.
The Factory of
Terror is the creation of a Freetown, Mass., couple, Tony Luizinho and Sue Dias,
who believe that horror is all in the details. Luizinho says that this
year he brought in a professional make-up artist from a school in Florida to
train his actors (many of whom are also professionals) in the techniques of
making up for horror effects that are much more subtle than masks can be.
"We also brought the costuming up a level with some real theatrical
costumes that are very detailed, like you see on the set of movies."
Also new at the
Factory this year is a room devoted to the Alfred Hitchcock horror movie The
Birds, and a room of special facial effects.
